The regulations for harmonic control of the power system by Taiwan Power Company.
How Are Harmonics Generated in Power Systems? Harmonics in power systems are caused by nonlinear loads or power sources. When devices in the power system—such as computers, inverters, and UPS systems—operate, their current waveforms are no longer pure sine waves. Instead, they include frequencies that are multiples of the fundamental frequency (like 50Hz or 60Hz); these additional frequencies are the harmonics. Nonlinear loads distort the current waveform, generating harmonic components at various frequencies. These harmonics can adversely affect the power system and connected equipment, leading to increased energy consumption, reduced equipment lifespan, system distortion, and even decreased production yield. Taipower Regulations on Harmonic Control To effectively regulate the harmonic current injected into the power system by users and power generation companies, and to maintain high power quality, Taipower mandates that any new or additional load with a total capacity of 300 kVA or more must be reviewed by a licensed electrical engineer or qualified professional. Only after approval from Taipower will power supply be provided! At Yuchens Systems, our Schaffner brand specializes in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) solutions and power quality improvement. We offer a range of devices and solutions for harmonic suppression that comply with Taipower's regulations. Here are some common harmonic suppression devices we provide: 1.Passive Harmonic Filters: These are used to suppress harmonic currents generated by nonlinear loads. Typically designed as passive components, these filters can be tailored to different applications and needs through various configurations and capacities. 2.Active Harmonic Filters: In addition to passive filters, we offer active harmonic filters that utilize advanced electronic circuit technology. These filters provide precise control and suppression of harmonic currents, achieving more efficient harmonic mitigation. Our products are designed for a wide array of applications and comply with Taipower's harmonic requirements. Schaffner ensures that users receive suitable harmonic suppression devices to enhance the stability, reliability, and efficiency of their systems.
